There are a number of risk factors that are associated with the development of rosacea:
- Age - rosacea is the most common in people who are between 30-50 years of age
- Alcohol - drinking any amount of alcohol can cause flushing and redness in the face, as the body warms up from the alcohol intake
- Being fair skinned - people who are fair skinned also have a much higher risk of developing rosacea
- Blushing - people who tend to blush more easily have a higher tendency to develop rosacea as a result of the constant enlargement of the blood vessels in their face from the blushing
- Cold, blustering winds - very cold windy weather will cause flushing of the face and an enlargement of the blood vessels, due to the cold wind's effect on the blood vessels on the face
