What is tai chi?

Tai Chi (the long name is Tai Chi Chuan) is an Eastern exercise technique which has been used for centuries in China as a therapy, as a preventive measure and even as a remedy for nearly every health condition, including arthritis.

Tai chi is a very gentle type of exercise and meditation, which is based on soft, fluid movements in a slow and controlled manner, that just about anyone can do. It is especially recommended for seniors, as it does not involve any jarring movements.

Since tai chi's introduction to the West, it has been a very popular form of gentle exercise practised by young and old.

Why tai chi is important

Many doctors today recommend tai chi for people with a variety of musculoskeletal conditions (back pain, arthritis) as it is a very gentle type of exercise, it improves flexibility and it gradually builds muscle strength.

Tai chi can be safely practiced by almost anyone that still has mobility (can walk). It is gentle and helps to relax and calm the mind.
