What is carpal tunnel syndrome?

Carpal tunnel syndrome (or repetitive injury syndrome - RSI) is a condition where the median nerve (which is a nerve that runs down the forearm into the hand, becomes pressed or squeezed at the wrist, in the area known as the carpal tunnel.

The carpal tunnel is a passage in the wrist which has bone on three sides, and a fibrous sheath on the palmar side. In addition to the median nerve, nine tendons also pass through the carpal tunnel.

Why carpal tunnel syndrome is important

Carpal tunnel syndrome is a degenerative condition that can cause a lot of pain and discomfort. It can cause pain not only in the hand and fingers, but also in the arm.
