Q: I love canned fish and I have started a diet 2 weeks ago.

Is canned fish like, tuna in brine, mackerel in tomato sauce and sardines in tomato sauce and salmon okay to eat while I am dieting?

Canned fishA: Thank you for your email and for using the VitalHealthZone forum.

Any fish in brine is basically fish in highly concentrated salt water. The brine will only add high amounts of salt, as salt can cause water retention it may be best to always drain away all brine liquid. The tomato pastes vary in their composition, they may have salt and sugar added.

I recommend that you drain away all excess liquid in your tinned fish and then eat the fish only.

Good luck on your diet and if you need any further advice on dieting and foods do feel free to email and make contact anytime.
